Playroom began as an ambitious vision to bring social gaming back to the living room. Players would scan a QR code with their phones, instantly join a shared room, and use their devices as controllers while the game unfolded on a TV or shared screen.
Working alongside the founding team of a FAANG designer and engineer duo, we helped build both the platform and the experiences that brought it to life. From reaction-based party games and competitive tap challenges to airplane games controlled by the phone as a controller, and other multiplayer classics like Rock Paper Scissors, we explored what phone-powered social gaming could become.
Beyond the games themselves, our team member contributed to the core multiplayer technology powering room creation, synchronization, and real-time phone-to-screen interaction. The lessons learned from building the platform ultimately evolved into PlayroomKit—the standalone multiplayer SDK that became the company's flagship product and now powers hundreds of multiplayer experiences.
